First posts are always a puzzle. Should it be a text-based version of a speed-date ("Hi, I'm Gayle, I like music, comedies, books and I'm learning to play guitar...") or should it be as if there's already fifty hilarious, exciting posts here that you've enjoyed and now you're back for more?
I guess your presence here means you're interested in finding out what to expect from this wee Substack, so here's my pitch:
Hey, lovely, if you subscribe to this Substack, you'll get some original short stories that are a bit weird and out there. And if you're not into fiction, I'll also be posting my thoughts on TV shows (both new and old), audiobooks and radio plays, (both new and old), and music reviews (both new and... well, you get the idea), and anything else I feel compelled to write about.
Okay, maybe I need to work on my charms a little more!
As a little taster of what non-fiction to expect, over on my (cob)website, I've previously written about Doctor Who, Inside No.9, and becoming a fan of The Beatles and solo Paul McCartney. Meanwhile, on the tremendous Toppermost site, I've written a couple of articles cheerleading the individual solo works of Squeeze stalwarts, Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook.
I'll be posting every two weeks if not weekly, and alternating between short stories, extracts from manuscripts Iโm working on, reviews, and general pop culture articles.
So if any of the above has made you raise one eyebrow with interest, please feel free to subscribe and keep up to date with my latest posts. If both eyebrows have remained motionless, or - the horror! - dipped into a frown, thanks for stopping by!
